Presidential Candidates and Their Cars
Republican Rudolph Giuliani gave an energy policy speech in New York last summer that included a pitch for greater use of hybrid cars. Idling outside for him was a Cadillac Escalade. He did, however, opt to walk to his next destination rather than ride in the SUV, which averages 13 mpg according to the government's fuel economy guide.

UN Study on Green Building Construction
Better architecture and energy savings in buildings could do more to fight global warming than all curbs on greenhouse gases agreed under the U.N.'s Kyoto Protocol, a U.N. study showed on Thursday.
Energy use by buildings account for 30 to 40 percent of world energy use.

Overfishing of Sharks in the Atlantic Effects Whole Ecosystem
Overfishing of big sharks in the Atlantic has cut stocks by 99 percent....With fewer sharks around, the species they prey upon -- like cownose rays -- have increased in numbers, and in turn, hordes of cownose rays dining on bay scallops have wiped the scallops out.

San Francisco Looks to Ban Petroleum-Based Plastic Bags
The law, approved 10-1, requires large markets and drug stores to offer customers bags made of paper that can be recycled, plastic that breaks down easily enough to be made into compost, or reusable cloth.

House Passes Bill to Cut Ship Pollution
Ocean-going vessels produce more sulfur dioxide emissions than all the world's cars, trucks and buses combined, according to a new report from the International Council on Clean Transportation, made up of transportation and air quality officials and experts from around the world.

Study Finds Organic Kiwis Healthier Than Conventionally Grown
Upon reaching maturity, and after different periods of storage, the organic fruit showed 18 and 27 percent higher levels, respectively, of polyphenols and antioxidant activity, both widely linked with health benefits.
The inference in the article is that this may apply to all organic produce.
