Dutch Immigrants Must Watch Liberal Film
The camera focuses on two gay men kissing in a park. Later, a topless woman emerges from the sea and walks onto a crowded beach. For would-be immigrants to the Netherlands, this film is a test of their readiness to participate in the liberal Dutch culture.
Not sure if this is good or bad, but it is an interesting idea.

Fear and Loathing in Los Angeles
Things are not getting better; things are getting worse. And how did that happen? I grew up thinking progress, I was taught progress, but I'm almost thirty and where have we gotten? What is better now than in the 70s? Cell phones? No one has cured a major disease since I've been alive.
Now we're at war...again. The environment is still in the shitcan, and people seem to have no problem exchanging ethics for (perceived) security. Everyone is working their butts off, but all they get in return is 150 cable channels and the promise of future reward. What the fuck is going on?

Spumco Stuff
Some original storyboards for "Stimpy's Invention" from the Ren and Stimpy show, created by John K, who actually has a blog of his own.
That was an amazing episode, Stimpy creates a device which forces Ren to be happy, which turns out to be a bizzare form of torture.

Been feeling sorta like this recently...
It's just something to do with feeling bored with the way these New York conversations, these American conversations, are framed. I feel like, no matter how much I agree, I won't agree. No American definition of the good life will match mine. I want to opt out of the terms and framings of these conversations even before I get into them...The landscape out the window of the plane is more interesting than the film.
Substitute NY for LA and that's it. Been feeling more Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas recently. Things are so fucked up. I listened to This American Life about Gitmo this week and it thoroughly depressed me. Or watch this Frontline doc. Even that we try to rationally consider torture and indefinite no-trial confinement; it's sick. And I've been spending over a $120 in gas every month. Adding to it and what for?

Been procrastinating about this for a while because I knew it wouldn't go smoothly and of course it didn't. But after a few hours of futzing around I think I got it right. But if anything looks wierd with the blog on your computer, let me know.

Record Set for Hottest Temperature on Earth: 3.6 Billion Degrees in Lab
One thing that puzzles scientists is that the high temperature was achieved after the plasma’s ions should have been losing energy and cooling. Also, when the high temperature was achieved, the Z machine was releasing more energy than was originally put in, something that usually occurs only in nuclear reactions.
Cool!
(UPDATE: a little more info on the fusion possibilities)

Ali Farka Toure Has Died
Very good African guitarist. I first heard him on NPR a few years back and then downloaded some of his music. Great stuff.
And he lived a pretty interesting life.

Natalie Portman Gangsta Rap
From last saturday's thoroughly mediocre SNL. I didn't stay up for even the first band segment so I missed it. But it's pretty sexy.
Even though it seems to be a straight Easy-E rip off (according to bb where I found it).
